MOOD # 01 - This is why we suffer.
One day, I will see Marseille back on top, lifting [insert somewhat meaningful trophy here because football is going to shit anyway]... but not this year.
One day, I will watch a Knicks team receiving their rings in Madison Square Garden... but not anytime soon.
One day, this is going to be something to win. To win big. To win after years of nothing.
Or is it going to be that good?
Because what's what I like apparently, losing teams with a glorious past. I did not do it on purpose but I never liked winners. So what if, it's not even the potential mystic reward of winning that I seek but the pure state of unhappiness teinted of hope offered by those sports teams.
Give me a sport and their stars and if they won too much, too consistantly, too predictably, too "winningly"... I probably disregarded them at best, hated them most of the time.
🎾 I started to really love Federer when he started losing to Nadal. Ever seen a man that gets twice as attractive as soon as he takes his Wilson racket and slices a backhand? Well now, do it as you lose and you're going to turn me on for good.
🚲 I didnt hate Lance Armstrong because he was doped, but because he won the fucking thing 7 times in a row. Chap made me cheer for Jan Ullrich or Iban Mayo for crying out loud.
🏎️ 2008 Vettel was my guy. 2013 Vettel made me quit watching Formula 1. 2020 Vettel had all my pity and a lot of my love back. Si ragazzi.
So yeah, I root for Marseille that won one title (2010) in the last 25 years and the Knicks that last made the playoffs in 2013 but didnt win a title since 1973.
So yeah, I love to suffer and enter seasons with a weird mix of "oh shit here we go again" and "this is our year I know it" and thats been the balance forever. Still hope one day, I'll see my boys be successful. But I'm terrified I will then hate my own teams for doing the thing I urge them to do every game/match... winning.
Let me suffer in peace, just sprinkle some hope every now and then so I cant quit.
Let us come close but bottle it.
Let us play well and get robbed by some video referring blunder.
Let us be legends without titles.
Let us be Patrick Ewing.
